A detour to Seward.

On our way back from Kenai today, we took a detour to Seward. Then on our way back to Anchorage, we took a break at the Hope cutoff and snuck down to the creek under the bridge. It's a place I love to stop on my summer time trips to the Peninsula.

I met a porcupine today

This little guy was being stalked by a couple of household cats. (I'm still hoping they wised up before the porcupine took care of that for them.)

When I got too close, he let me know that he didn't want me to mess with him. And yes, I paid attention.

A Saturday Drive to Homer

We headed out of Anchorage this morning around 8:30, headed for Homer. Here's Turnagain Pass at about 10:00 AM

Still driving on down the road through the pass.

From the Tern Lake Rest Stop. (At the junction between the Seward and Sterling Hiways)

Hi from Ariel, (Aaron's Sister) You'll meet her too.

The View from Homer Spit at about 9:30 PM.
(No, it did not take that long to get here) We actually arrived in Homer at about 2:00 after a stop in Soldotna for lunch.

And finally, the office of Rainbow Tours where we'll check in for our trip across the bay (see picture above) to Seldovia.
Seldovia can not be seen from Homer, but it's down the bay to the right of the picture.

Wednesday in Los Anchorage

Just around the corner from my house on the way to work this morning....

I took a stroll on the bike trail after work today...

Here's a shot from the park across the street from my school.

And here's one more shot of "Los Anchorage" from the drive home from work. We have a saying here that says those of us who live in Anchorage, live about 20 minutes from Alaska.

Sunday's Drive May 21

I drove out to Wasilla this afternoon to attend an Ordination service. These are some photos from the drive back to town. (Wasilla is North of Anchorage, the opposite direction from Seward. You can drive this Hiway on your way to or from Denali if you want to. (It's about 5 miles longer than the regular Hiway.)

Friday Rush Hour

Just a quick shot as I was held up in traffic. There's still plenty of snow on the mountains. With any luck, most of it will be gone from these mountains by the time you get here. The highway is the Seward Highway - the road that heads south out of town. About 5 miles further down the road, it passes Potters Marsh, a wildlife refuge, and becomes one lane each way. After that, there's only one turn to make on the way to Homer. (There are a couple of traffic lights in Soldotna)

Some winter photos

Here's Aaron, whom you'll meet, and I'll guarantee that the deck seating will be more comfortable than what you see here.

This is heading back toward Anchorage from Kenai. That's Turnagain Arm down there. From here the road descends quickly to sea level and passes around the end of the Arm and on towards Girdwood.
